Bellanda Tower, or Tour Bellanda, is a scenic and historic spot perched on the slopes of Castle Hill in Nice, France. Built in the 19th century on the ruins of the old Château de Nice, the tower stands as a romantic tribute to the city’s past. While it’s not an original medieval structure, its location carries significant historical weight—Louis XIV’s forces destroyed the original castle in 1706, leaving behind only fragments of its once-imposing defenses.
Today, Bellanda Tower is best known for its breathtaking views over the Baie des Anges, the curve of the Promenade des Anglais, and the rooftops of Old Town. It's a popular photo stop and a favorite among those looking to admire the Mediterranean from above. The name "Bellanda" is thought to reflect its beautiful outlook, and in the 19th century, it attracted artists and writers who found inspiration in its dramatic setting. One of the most famous visitors was composer Hector Berlioz, who reportedly stayed nearby and was inspired by the panorama.
Visitors can access the tower via the stairway from Quai des États-Unis or by taking the lift up Castle Hill. While the tower itself isn't open to the public, the terrace surrounding it offers one of the finest free views in the city and is a perfect place to pause, reflect, and soak in the timeless charm of Nice.
