Chantilly

Chantilly is a charming small town in northern France, famous for its grand Chateau, its equestrian culture, and the sweet whipped cream that bears its name.

The town of Chantilly is located in the Oise department, just over 30 miles North of Paris. It is home to the beautiful and historic Château de Chantilly and is also one of the most important horse training centres in Europe. The so-called 'Great Stables' (Grandes Écuries) were built on the Château de Chantilly estate back in 1719, cementing the town's reputation as a major equestrian hub. Today, the Hippodrome de Chantilly racecourse is one of France's most prestigious horse racing venues, hosting several major races throughout the year, and the Great Stables houses the Living Museum of the Horse, a museum offering shows and exhibitions on the history and art of horsemanship.

The town itself is quite elegant, with tree-lined streets, stone houses and plenty of boutique shops and bakeries. It is a great place to sample Chantilly cream, the area's most famous export. This decadent whipped cream, flavoured with vanilla, is widely associated with the luxury and fine dining and is typically served with fruits, pastries, or desserts like profiteroles.
