Stockholm's Vikingaliv (Viking Museum) is a modern museum dedicated to the Viking Age. It's located on Djurgården island, which is home to many of the city's most popular museums and attractions. Inaugurated in 2017, it brings Viking history to life via interactive exhibits that tell the story of Viking society, culture, and daily life. The collection includes reconstructions and archaeological artefacts, educational displays about Viking ships, trade routes, and mythology, and even life-size figures based on actual Viking remains, created using forensic reconstruction techniques. It also offers an exhilarating 11-minute boat ride called "Ragnfrid's Saga" that takes visitors through a year in the life of a Viking family.
The museum was established to spread knowledge about the Vikings and dispel many of the enduring myths about them. Beyond the stereotypical image of raiders and warriors, it seeks to show their roles as farmers, craftspeople, traders, and explorers, covering aspects like Viking family life, religious beliefs, craftsmanship, and their extensive trading networks. It offers an exciting experience for both adults and children, combining education and entertainment.
