Reims

Located in the Champagne region about 80 miles from Paris, Reims is a city in northeastern France, known for its history, wine cellars, & impressive cathedral.

Originally founded as Durocortorum by the Gauls, Reims evolved into a significant Roman city and was already a major urban centre by the First Century AD. It is often referred to as the "City of Kings" because it was the traditional coronation site for French monarchs. For over a thousand years, 33 French kings were crowned at the magnificent Notre-Dame de Reims cathedral, starting with Clovis I in 508 CE. The current cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Gothic masterpiece renowned for its stunning architecture, beautiful stained glass windows, and the famous "Smiling Angel" sculpture. The city also has other notable sites like the Basilica of Saint-Remi and the Palace of Tau, which were used during coronation ceremonies.

As one of the main cities in the Champagne wine region, Reims also serves as a headquarters for many prestigious champagne houses, including Taittinger, Veuve Clicquot, Pommery, and Mumm. Visitors can tour the extensive chalk cellars (caves) beneath the city where champagne is aged.
